wikipedia:ITIN (1996) is a 9-digit number beginning with the number "9". It is issued by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to individuals who are required for U.S. federal tax purposes to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have and are not eligible to get a social security number (SSN).

  • ITINs are used by foreign investors in United States real estate. Such investors need ITINs to file federal and state tax returns to report rental income
