System requirements[edit]
Unlike macOS Catalina (2019), which supported every standard configuration Mac that macOS Mojave (2018) supported, Big Sur drops support for various Macs released 8 years ago in 2012 and 2013. Big Sur runs on the following Macs:[1]
- MacBook: Early 2015 and newer
- MacBook Air: Mid 2013 and newer
- MacBook Pro: Late 2013 and newer
- Mac Mini: Late 2014 and newer
- iMac: Mid 2014 and newer
- iMac Pro: Late 2017
- Mac Pro: Late 2013 and newer
- Developer Transition Kit (only up to Big Sur 11.3 beta 2[2])
