qemu-img info allows you to

Options

--backing-chain Will enumerate information about backing files in a disk image chain

Examples

 $ qemu-img info test.vmdk

Notes:

  • Encrypted information will be available only if the image is encrypted (The use of encryption in qcow and qcow2 images is considered to be flawed by modern cryptography standards)
  • Snapshot list: A list of all internal snapshots
