-i tells sed to modify the file in place.
-i[SUFFIX], --in-place[=SUFFIX] edit files in place (makes backup if SUFFIX supplied)
sudo sed -i '/#net.ipv4.ip_forward=1/s/^#//g' /etc/sysctl.conf
